It’s a shame that who we are is oftentimes equated exclusively with what we do. And while I do believe that there’s a strong correlation between the two, one does not necessarily determine the other. Having said this, here are some of the areas that constitute my life (listed not in order of importance but in the order of your potential curiosity):
1. I am an alumni of Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where I earned my Master of Science in Information Technology. I focused my studies on the areas of information retrieval, database management, data mining, and management science. The website for this program can be found here.
2. I am a Systems Analyst with One Coast, a company located east of the city of Pittsburgh that “helps hundreds of vendors market and sell their products to thousands of retail organizations across the United States.” Please see the company’s website for more information. In the past I’ve also worked as a Senior Research Associate with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, a Mac Specialist with Apple, Inc., a Database Analyst with Communifax, and a freelance web designer. Please see my resume for a more complete description of my professional experience. Recently I’ve been working with Business Intelligence applications and database development/administration.
3. I am a member of Three Nails Episcopal Church, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Check out our website if interested. I am also a member of our vestry, and help out with taking care of the website. Our church VERY loosely falls under the “emergent” banner, and we’re all working through a culturally new understanding of what it means to hold to the Christian faith in this era. We are an Episcopal church, which both connects us to the history of our religion, and pushes us to be culturally relevant in the present. Even though this blog has shifted away from theological postings, feel free to contact me if you’re interested in having a conversation of that tone.
4. I am the husband of my amazing wife Emily. We’ve been married since August of 2004, and currently live just east of Pittsburgh where we bought our first home in June of 2005. We also have a Dachshund named Illias Ignatius Kane and a Miniature Pinscher name Augustus Q. (both of whom are both loving and hilarious). Emily and I love learning how to live life intentionally together, including making conscious decisions about the food we eat, the products we buy, and the way we interact with the world around us. Being married is one of the greatest experiences I’ve had, and it gets better just about every day. It has its hard moments, just like everything else, but as a whole it’s utterly beneficial is most every way. I love my wife.
5. Mostly, I’m all over the place. I enjoy math, logic, technology, traveling, Ireland, sleeping, reading, drinking Lindemans Framboise and Guinness, smoking my pipe, and so forth. If you have any questions about any of the particulars of my life, feel free to contact me.
