Perelman Says No

The Fields Medal.I’m sure most of you have heard by now, but on Tuesday Grigori Perelman refused to accept the Fields Medal for his work on the Poincaré Conjecture. I’m sure there are people with all sorts of opinions about this, but the First Post has an interesting take on the situation. Tim Berners-Lee accepts lots of awards and honorary degrees (just look up his bio), records videos for causes like net neutrality, and all manner of other public work. I’m not sure I buy that refusing to get a job and demeaning people who like your work should be considered admirable, as the First Post article suggests.
